  We had a home visit which was supposed to advise on the suitability of the gas fire but no checks or advice was given. They ask for payment upfront and so you are committed to the purchase. Their gas fitter did not carry out any checks prior to fitting the fire. We asked for his business card and discovered he didn't have active credentials with him. After the fitting was completed, we noticed cracks in the plaster and also that the wall itself was heating up. Gas Safe inspected it and condemned it due to issues with the flue and classified it as immediately dangerous. The fire itself had a missing coal and a broken coal bed and the installation had not been registered as required by building regulations. We returned the gas fire to the Colwyn Fireplace Centre asking for a refund but were threatened with being thrown out of the showroom. They agreed to a refund via bank transfer but that didn't happen. Instead we have accepted a replacement electric fire which has now been fitted, just waiting for the missing blanking plate.
